Project
Including forest ecosystem goods and services in Senegal’s GDP
Client
Government of Senegal
Objective
The Government of Senegal is committed to understanding the economic value of the goods and services produced by its forest ecosystems and to ensuring that this value is properly reflected in the nation’s GDP estimates. To that end, the Ministry of the Environment organized a workshop in Dakar in June 2015 to validate its proposed methodology for valuing forest ecosystem goods and services and to review its preliminary estimates of these values.
Our Role
Midsummer Analytics was invited to participate in the workshop to offer international expertise in the valuation of forest ecosystem goods and services and in natural capital accounting. We reviewed the Government’s proposed methodology and initial estimates and presented recommendations for improvements during the workshop. Following the workshop, we prepared an aide-mémoire for the Government as well as a revised version of the Government’s methodology note and a summary of our comments on the initial estimates.
