Project
Review of State of the Environment Reporting in Canada
Client
The Ivey Foundation
Objective
The Ivey Foundation required a study of the relative merits of existing environmental performance indexes and of the status of “state of the environment” (SOE) reporting by governments in Canada. The study assessed the adequacy of existing metrics metrics in light of Ivey’s funding program objectives and recommended steps toward producing a robust SOE-type report for Canada in light of existing reporting initiatives and the desire to avoid duplicated effort.
Our Role
Midsummer Analytics reviewed and summarized the strengths and weaknesses of existing environmental performance indexes and SOE reports in Canada and internationally. We presented options for filling the growing void in such reporting in Canada that the Ivey Foundation could consider funding. Our research was instrumental in the Foundation’s ultimate decision to fund the International Institute for Sustainable Development to prepare a report on inclusive wealth in Canada.
