Objective
The 9th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development took place in Kiev, Ukraine in December 2019. As part of the forum, a training session took place on the application of the UNFC for sustainable resource management. The Forum was specifically geared towards experts from four beneficiary countries targeted under the framework of the UNDA project; Integrated energy and water resource management in support of sustainable development in South-East Europe and Central Asia. The objective of the training workshop was to introduce experts from the beneficiary countries to the UNFC and its application to the classification and management of mineral energy resources. The training was conducted by international experts, including our Principal, Robert Smith, with the goal being to provide participants with sufficient knowledge and understanding of the UNFC to be able to use it to organize data in their countries.
Our Role
Our report summarizes Midsummer Analytic's contribution to the training workshop, includes presentations given by our Principal, Robert Smith, and summaries our conclusions regarding the strengths and weaknesses of existing mineral and energy reserve statistics in the beneficiary countries. Our contributions to the workshop focused on:
- providing feedback to experts from the beneficiary countries on the strengths and challenges related to existing mineral and energy reserve statistics in their countries, based on presentations made by the experts during Part I of the workshop
- providing guidance to the national experts on the presentation of the "baseline reviews" of existing mineral and energy reserve statistics that each national expert has been contracted by the UNECE to provide
- presenting the links between the SEEA and the UNFC in detail, in Part III of the workshop
