Client
The Ivey Foundation
Objective
This report prepared by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and lead authored by Midsummer Analytics principal, Rob Smith, was written as one of the first efforts to measure comprehensive wealth in Canada and detailed what comprehensive wealth is and why it should be implemented as an essential component of measuring the wealth of our nation. Comprehensive wealth compiles the value of all assets a nation has at its disposal, including; produced, financial, natural, human, and social capital, to provide an outlook on the prospects for future well-being of the country. In spite of the importance of comprehensive wealth outlined in this report, Canada has not implemented its use on a routine basis. This report introduced an example set of comprehensive wealth indicators and presented them on the basis of how then can help to improve the reporting of national economic progress and projections for the future.
