Objective

The objective of the Steering Group on Climate Change Statistics is to provide direction for implementation of the Conference of European Statisticians Recommendations on Climate Change Statistics; to advance the work on climate change-related statistics in UNECE member countries; and to promote coherence between greenhouse gas inventories and official statistics. Its key tasks are to:

• coordinate Conference of European Statisticians activities with key international organizations that are active in climate change-related statistics
• play a key role in organizing and leading the work of expert meetings involving producers and users of climate change-related statistics, and
• oversee the activities of any Conference of European Statisticians task forces working on climate change-related statistics.

Our Role

Midsummer Analytics’ Principal, Robert Smith, serves as co-chair of the Steering Group. This follows from his earlier role as Chair of the Conference of European Statisticians’ Working Group on Statistics for Sustainable Development. Rob brings an extensive knowledge of environmental and energy statistics to his role as co-chair, along with a deep understanding of the functioning of national statistical offices and of issues related to climate change.
