Objective
The International Workshop on Opportunities and Obstacles for Natural Capital Accounting took place in Brussels, Belgium from 27-28 January 2015. Organized jointly by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and WWF Germany, the workshop brought together science, stakeholder and policy experts on natural capital accounting (NCA) to discuss the different approaches to NCA applied across countries and to identify success factors for incorporating NCA into policy processes.
Our Role
Robert Smith participated in the workshop as an invited expert. He presented Canada’s experience in NCA based on his long experience as Director of Environmental Accounts and Statistics at Statistics Canada. He actively participated in the workshop discussions and contributed to its overall success. Based on his involvement, WWF Germany subsequently invited Midsummer Analytics to jointly bid with them on a large project to review the status of NCA globally and then identify a small number of countries and/or issues for more intensive study with the aim of increasing the policy impact of NCA (outcome of proposal pending).
